About Windowsill Harvest
We grow food indoors in ordinary flats with ordinary windows. When we say we grew something, we did — and when we haven't, the article says that too.
Why this site exists
Most indoor growing advice is written for people with a greenhouse, a garden bed, or at least a south-facing conservatory. That is not the situation most of us are in. Windowsill Harvest is written for a north-facing kitchen window, a rented flat with one warm sill, and a budget that does not stretch to a full hydroponic rack.
Everything published here is aimed at a single question: what can you realistically harvest from the space you already have?
How we test
Not every guide on this site comes from the same process, so every guide says which kind it is:
- Grow guides describe a crop we actually sowed, potted and harvested indoors — not advice repackaged from a seed catalogue.
- Gear guides say up front whether the numbers are our own measurements, taken at the distance you would actually use, or figures pulled from the manufacturer's own listing because we have not tested the item ourselves. Where it is the latter, the article links to the source for each figure.
Two standards apply regardless of which kind of guide it is:
- Long enough to fail. When we do run our own grow or test, we keep going past the honeymoon period, because most windowsill setups die in week three, not week one.
- We say when we do not know. If a number is an estimate or an unverified manufacturer claim, the article says so rather than presenting it as something we confirmed.
